About the Logo
PROGRAM

The V International Legumes Conference logo, Buenos Aires, August-2010, is inspired in three South American species: Erythrina crista-galli (Papilionoideae), Acacia caven (Mimosoideae) and Caesalpinia gilliesii (Caesalpinioideae). This beautiful and harmonious iconographic composition in colors, illustrates the front page of the classic book of A. Burkart “Las leguminosas argentinas, silvestres y cultivadas, ed. 2da. (1952)”, giving an idea of the morphologic divergence between the three subfamilies. It is important to emphasize that this book has been a recurrent source of guidance for the study of the family in Argentina and neighbor countries.

The election of this logo, aims to honour professor A. Burkart for his outstanding work in the field of Legumes Family.

The illustration was created by the naturalist and painter Ilse von Rentzell, corageous explorer of the southern Patagonian Andes and first woman to cross the icefield from Argentina to Chile as member in the expedition of the chemist -geologist F. Reichert (1932/33). She collaborated as librarian and Botany artist at Darwinion Botany Institute from 1937 to the end of 1954.
